With the inauguration of the new Lend Hotel, an opportunity has arisen to improve conditions for pedestrians and hotel guests by eliminating roads and repurposing the resulting space for non-motorized transport. The newly established square plays a pivotal role in an initiative aimed at enhancing public spaces in the Lend district of Graz. It serves as one element in a sequence, complemented by recently planted trees lining the adjacent street, creating an inviting area.
An essential technical feature is the innovative rainwater management system: all surface water is directed into an underground drainage system, simultaneously nourishing the trees. These trees, in turn, release water through their canopies, actively contributing to the cooling of temperatures on the square.
