A hornbeam grove serves as a distinctive threshold and setting for the new Schlossberg Museum. Hornbeam is a type of deciduous hardwood tree belonging to the genus Carpinus. The term “grove” implies a small group of trees growing closely together, often in a deliberate arrangement.

Within this space, the history of the former fortress will be vividly illustrated and displayed for the citizens of Graz and its numerous visitors. Positioned in the heart of the city center, the museum illustrates the rich heritage of Graz. The courtyard with its impressive view has become one of the most popular open spaces in the city.

The project was honored with the Architectural Prize of Styria in 2021, underscoring its significant contribution to the cultural and architectural landscape of the region.
